Maleficent Maleficent is an imposing fairy who lives in the Moors (a magical woodland realm which borders an actual human kingdom). As a young girl, Maleficent meets and falls in love with a peasant boy named Stefan. Maleficent is sixteen years old when he gives him what he refers to as an authentic kiss. As they get older, the two grow separated; Stefan’s love is ruined by his desire to be king, and Maleficent becomes the protector of the Moors.
When King Henry tries to conquer the Moors, Maleficent mortally wounds the King, which forces him to retreat. He lies dying and declares that Maleficent will succeed him. Stefan calls Maleficent in Moors. He injects her but can’t bring himself to kill her. Instead, he cuts off her wings and gives them to Henry to prove Maleficent’s loss of life. Henry is then named the new King. As he is still contemplating the betrayal Maleficent turns Diaval an animal that is trapped, into a human, frightening his captors away. He promises to help her and gives her the information about the humans. She is furious when she learns the reason her wings were takenaway, Maleficent and the Moors she manages, turn more sinister and dark.
After some time Diaval informs Maleficent that King Stefan’s infant daughter, Aurora, is about to be Christened. The vengeful and bitter Maleficent is dressed in black robes, appears without invitation and curses the newborn princess. On her 16th birthday, she will put her finger on the spindle of the spinning wheel and then fall to sleep for the rest of her life. Malice mocks Stefan’s pleas for mercy however, she offers a different option that is true love can be the cure for the curse through a kiss. Stefan and Maleficent believe that this isn’t possible.
Stefan is given the order to hire three excellent pixie-fairies to hide and protect Aurora until the day following her 16th birthday. She destroys every spinning wheel in the kingdom, burying their remains in the castle dungeon. Stefan sends his armies to locate and kill Maleficent but she is surrounded by the Moors with a wall of thorns, protecting it. Through the years, Stefan slips into madness and anxiety and becomes completely obsessed with the task of killing Maleficent, even refusing to see his own wife lying on her deathbed.
Maleficent finds the pixies and Aurora’s residence and is able to watch Aurora grow from far away. As she and Diaval engage in pranks on the pixies and their bumbling ways and gradually assume Aurora’s care. Aurora meets Maleficent when she is 15 years old. Aware she has been watched over, Aurora names Maleficent ” fairy godmother”. Maleficent realises that she doesn’t have the heart to hurt Aurora and secretly attempts to lift the curse. In the forest, Aurora meets a young Prince Phillip, and they both seem to be attracted to each other.
The day before Aurora’s 16th birthday, Aurora says to Maleficent that she’d like to live with her in the Moors. The Pixies learn the truth about her lineage and curse when she tells them. Aurora angry at Maleficent’s evil, flees into her castle. Instead of welcoming Aurora, Stefan locked her inside a room, where she plotted to take down Maleficent. Aurora is drawn to the dungeon by the power of the curse. She pricks her finger on an iron spindle, and she then falls asleep. Maleficent, determined to save her, takes Phillip and then enters Stefan’s castle. The pixies entice Phillip to kiss Aurora, but this isn’t enough to wake her. Maleficent tearsfully apologizes for Philip’s departure and is able to kiss Aurora on her forehead. The kiss unexpectedly wakes Aurora when Maleficent is truly awed by the maternal love for her.
Maleficent and Aurora try to flee and escape, but Stefan and his guards keep them. Maleficent transforms herself into a dragon to help her and Aurora however both are taken down. Aurora finds Maleficent’s wings inside the cage and releases them. They fly to Maleficent and then reattach themselves however, Stefan continues to fight. Maleficent carries him up to the top of the most affluent tower. Unwilling to kill him when she announces that the battle has ended and tries to leave him there. Stefan smacks her from behind, pulling them both off of the tower. Maleficent spreads her wings to save herself, which causes Stefan to lose hold and plunge to his death. Maleficent, with King Stefan gone, brings the Moors to their glory. She she gives her title to Aurora who is the queen of the Moors, unifying both kingdoms. Phillip also visits them.
